Pedro Peña of the Madison HS Viceroys had a fine season this year, and today he accepted the Outstanding Hitter Award for 2009.
The 15-year-old center fielder put up a .368 average and a .440 on-base percentage, piling up 57 hits, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 16 home runs, 35 RBIs and 59 runs scored.

He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Jon Porter performed like a veteran on the hill for the Grinnell HS Navahos and walked away with the Sub League 2 Outstanding Pitcher Award in the process.
The 18-year-old Navahos star fashioned a 8-0 won-loss record in 2009 with a 1.63 ERA. In 66.1 innings of work and 9 starts, Porter struck out 66 while giving up 59 hits and 5 walks. He held opposing batters to a .230 average.
